Victorian Art Nouveau Royal Doulton Oil LampAcid Etched ShadeHinks No2 Duplex. A rare example of a classic English antique oil lamp. Superb late Victorian oil lamp dating to around 1885 and very much in the Art Nouveau style with intricate wrought brass mounts. The mottled ceramic body is decorated with gilt jelly fish, starfish, turtles and seaweed. The underside base has impressed crown and'Doulton' with the number 544 in two places. Comes with stunning acid etched glass shade decorated with four cherubs/puttis depicting the arts. The burner is a rise and fall Hinks Duplex No2 twin burner including extinguisher. With this burner you can light the lamp with out taking all the glassware off. The chimney is original mouth blown glass of ovoid form in good condition with some fritting wear to fitting end. The shade is a heavily etched frosted shade in very good condition apart from some fritting on the gallery fitting rim and a very small chip on the inside of the top rim.. Condition is overall very good. The lamp is fully working. Only main picky is slight hairline on the thumb wheel of the burner. Has wear and tear, tarnishing etc all commensurate with age and use. Will polish up very well indeed, if new owner decides. Measures overall 25.5tall to top of chimney. Measures 16.5 to top of burner. Brass base section measures a diameter of 7.5. An great addition to any collection that. Will illuminate superbly in any period, contemporary setting.
Has wear and tear, marks etc commensurate with age and over 120 years of use.. Weighs 4.980 kilos unwrapped (minus a little for fuel).
