RARE STEUBEN FREDERICK CARDER ACID CUT-BACK LAMP/ ARTS & CRAFTSART DECO-1930s

Large Frederick Carder - Steuben Art Glass Lamp Arts & Crafts Art Deco Design Acid Cut-Back Calcite Bronze Mounts. Rare, possibly unique, Steuben - Frederick Carder era factory art glass lamp with original gilded bronze mounts. Total lamp height - 24 / Glass body height - 10. Glass body identified as Steuben - shape 6806 and the cut back design as possibly Trentham pattern. Pure white glass with an acid-cut Arts and Crafts - Art Deco design - a geometric floral design in relief. The glass is completely mat white with no glossy or semi-gloss areas. The bottom has a ground and polished pontil and foot. The heavy bronze mounts appear to have been made especially for this glass body and the top plate has cut and engraved designs that compliment the glass etched design.

Aside from the three main bulb sockets, there is a smaller socket (hidden in the interior) which will light the glass body up from the inside when the lamp is on. A beautiful and elegant feature. (please see the photos of the lamp partially disassembled). The lamp looks to have been re-wired sometime in the past and probably deserves to be re-wired, given a nice new silk-covered cord, and new inline switch.

The shades that you see in the photos dont come with the lamp and in any case are not exactly the correct proportions for the lamp. I could not find another example in white of this design as a vase or a lamp. The only other piece I was able to find was a vase with the same design, the same size, but with a brownish finish, which you can see in the second to last photo. Lamp Height - 24 / Glass Base Height - 10. CONDITION: Excellent condition, as shown in the photos and with the following noted: No damage to the glass. Bronze mounts in good condition with light wear and aged patina to the surfaces. The three main sockets, the inline switch, and the plug all work fine. The small interior socket probably works as well but I did not have the proper size bulb to test it (not sure what size it takes).

I always recommend re-wiring antique lamps. This piece will be a museum quality addition to any collection of American Art Glass and will display beautifully in any Mid Century Modern, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, New England, Classical, Modernist, or Arts and Crafts decor. Look carefully at all the photos to view the details and condition of the piece.
