RARE Art Deco Phoenix & Consolidated Pink Cockatoo Hanging Lamp Shade & Hardware

This lamp, along with many of our other listings, is being offered at no reserve. Years of effort went into the curation and documentation of Mr. Ogoreks collection with the best and rarest of items constantly sought; many of which were offered for Mr. Wilsons use in creating his book.

The crown of this lamp, its brilliant bulbous shade, is also the jewel in the crown of any Phoenix & Consolidated collector. Rarity notwithstanding, this lamp (and specifically its shade) is a masterpiece of American art glass that helped solidify Consolidateds place as the premier creator of unique and expressive home lighting. Meant to be inverted for hanging, the rounded bottom of the shade shows its viewer a cacophony of cockatoos in various states of flight and their accompanying foliage. Each bird representation is different from the one before, adding additional visual interest.

Also adding to the magnificence of this shade is its coloration, showing as a subdued blush while the lower relief areas of the decoration are heavily rouged, serving to create depth in the design work. On the interior of its fitter rim, the shade is signed PHOENIX GLASS SCULPTURED WARE #2844. This model number corresponds with the model number shown in the original catalog (pictured) and is written in what appears to be grease pencil on the exterior of the fitter. The globe of this lamp is supported by hanging hardware with complementary Art Nouveau motif and neutral ivory color. Its chain is constructed of sturdy links in the same color and terminates with a substantial ceiling rod from which the electrical cord extends.

SHADE : Very good to excellent, as found, with only light wear commensurate with age and utility. Measures approximately 7 ½ in depth and 10 in diameter with a 4 fitter rim (minute roughness). HARDWARE : Very good with wear to paint commensurate with age and use. We recommend rewiring before installation.
