DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR SALE. Up for offer this week is an incredible and rare art deco sculptural lamp from the early 1930s. This rare piece is made in France and is signed FAYRAL, which is a pseudonym that was used by the renowned artist/sculptor, Pierre Le Faguays.
This artist is closely associated with Max Le Verrier and many of his pieces were made at the Le Verrier foundry in Paris. This piece is from our own collection and have seen it with several different names, including Lady at the Fountain and Nausicaa an ancient Greek mythological character in Homer's Odyssey. Its sometimes difficult to tell from pictures but this is a large and substantial piece.
We have deliberately taken pictures to show this piece with every day, familiar items, to give a true impression of the actual size of this piece (See picture with sculpture on patio chair and with a 12 oz can of soda). This piece is made of solid Bronze The Le Verrier foundry in Paris had a proprietary blend of metals that was also known as Art Bronze. Bronze is after all a blend of metals; primarily copper, with 10-12 % Tin with a dash of other metals, like zinc or nickel added.
The sculpture is patinated a beautiful verdigris and the base of the fountain is two tone, with both verdigris and a dark brown. Overall, the piece is in excellent condition. The base has its original cut out mirror that is meant to represent the water of the fountain. The figure is flanked by two illuminated frosted, white crackle glass globes. The lighting component of this piece is 2 ceramic candelabra sized light sockets that sit inside the 2 square ends that are meant to represent the top of the staircase. The porcelain sockets have been re-wired. The white frosted glass ball shades are approximately 2.5 inches tall and have no fitter rims. The globes are sitting on thin, brass holders. The globes are held firmly in place by the figure, whos hands are resting on the top surface of the globes. We note that the porcelain electrical sockets and small glass globe shades are not original to this piece. There is no switch on this piece and is plugged in. An inline antique switch can be installed on the cord by the new owner if so desired but there is no space/opening on the piece to install an on-off switch. The bronze sculpture does not sit perfectly flush with the marble base on one side This is slight and only visible if you are looking at the base at eye level. The piece stands almost 18 inches tall and the black marble base is 10 inches wide by 9 inches deep. The entire piece weights 26 Lbs. In total - -The art bronze sculpture on its own weights 19 Lbs.With the marble slab weighing 6 Lbs. As the old saying goes, Pictures say a thousand words and its important that you look at all pictures carefully as they form part of the overall description of the item and can often speak louder than our written descriptions. We are not experts on ever single item we list and while it rarely, if ever happens, we might miss describing an issue in our written description that is visible in the picture. We clearly welcome hearing from people if this should be spotted in any of our listings so we can correct it. We devote a big chunk of time to taking high quality pictures for our listings and take pictures at many different viewpoints and we normally take very close up pictures to show fine details. We try to photograph the item as if you were looking at it in person and try to anticipate what people would look most closely at if they were looking at it in person. This is sometimes hard to squeeze in with a 12-image limit and encourage people to get in touch and request specific pictures if needed. We do our best to take all pictures in natural light but this is not always possible or practical and in those situations we try to note this in the written description. All pictures used in our listings are lightly edited before use and the editing is limited to cropping and slight adjustments to overall brightness/contrast settings. We use a combination of Microsoft Photo Manager and Windows 10 Photo to prepare images and the original, un-edited images are kept on file. The item "Art Deco Sculpture-Lamp-by Pierre Le Faguays Lady at the Fountain" is in sale since Friday, February 14, 2020.
