Art Deco Saturn Lamp Machine Age 1930s Chrome, Bakelite, Stepped Glass Shade

I have available an impressive'streamline moderne' piece of machine age Americana dating from the 1930s. Quite a crisp modern statement piece in immaculate condition. This is a rare and stylish piece from my own private collection attributed to the 1933/34 Worlds Fair in Chicago which articulated a glorious vision of humanity's future in space.

The theme of the fair was technological innovation and to celebrate the city's centennial. The fair was titled "A Century of Progress" with the motto "Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Adapts" and it was a new vision for a fair where they marketed it as an'International Exposition'. Being a product of the exposition, the lamp has a central feature in the shape of a stylized Saturn, suspended in the middle where attention is brought to it's gleaming Saturn disk'speed ring'. It has a bold, circular multi-stepped base alternating in chrome and black finish.

It's stabilised with a weighted base which is designed with tripod feet which adds to it's modernist and futuristic design. Further enhancing the lamps striking visual impact is its heavy cream cased (dual layer) glass stepped shade. The lamp was refitted with luxury black twisted cloth cord and features it's original black bakelite US plug with streamlined features. This lamp, as can be seen, lights up and displays beautifully. The lamp is immaculate and has been professionally restored.

The chrome components have been fully rechromed and are flawless and gleaming. The original black eggshell finish was well worn and flaking and it has been matched and redone. The shade and bakelite parts of this lamp are in clean and functional condition, there are no issues.

An excellent example in stunning condition ready for another 80+ years of enjoyment. Approximate size of lamp: Height: 41 cm Base Width: 14 cm. To make sure this happen, I use firm boxes, package stiffeners, foam separators between items, bubble wrap around the item, and paper padding. I recycle packing materials whenever possible. Great care is taken to protect items and it must be proven by the post office that sender negligence caused damage.
