ART DECO MACHINE AGE CHROME CATALIN BAKELITE SATURN LAMP with GLASS'SATURN' SHADE

From the same important private collection of ultra rare Art Deco Saturn-themed lighting that I occasionally have the privilege to offer comes this outstanding 1930's American Machine Age lamp in a stunning combination of gleaming chrome and glossy dark amber catalin. An exceptionally impressive statement piece for the discerning collector, the lamp has a central chromed feature in the shape of the planet Saturn suspended between a column having a stepped base and a triple-disc capital and the neck which is intersected by two chrome discs and rises to a chrome gallery with concentric rings - all surmounting a multi-stepped chrome and catalin base beneath which are three "pastille"-shaped chromed feet. Further enhancing the lamps extraordinary visual impact and also completing the Saturn theme - is its superb white cased glass spherical shade in the shape of Saturn encircled by two wide extruding Saturn rings moulded in the glass and with chrome gilding. It is suited for use with a candle-shaped light bulb, and it fixes in place in the gallery via a 2-arm spring mechanism.

The lamp has been completely re-chromed to restore it to its original splendour and has recently been professionally rewired with luxury quality twisted braided black cord complete with an Art Deco era Australian black bakelite plug, refitted with a high quality chrome bulb-holder (bayonet type) and last but not least, features an original 1930s elliptical-shaped inline switch in black bakelite. Condition The lamp is in absolutely superb condition, all the chrome components gleaming bright and mirror-like, the dark amber catalin base is glossy and with no cracks or scratches, only a small shallow chip to the bottom edge at 10 o'clock - virtually unnoticeable except on very close scrutiny. The shade is in perfect condition with only very faint traces of wear to the silver gilding on the Saturn "rings" scattered here and there.
