The Unique Company was started in 1889 on Park Place in New York. They were a contemporary of the Tiffany Company and made similar lamps that were priced a bit lower than Tiffany. They employed numerous artists and employees in two plants in New York. The company executed very elaborate shades with a price point to appeal.
In 1917 with the war and the waning depression the company went out of business. When I got the lamp I was told that it was a Handel and they may have thought that because of the acorn finals on the pull cords.
The lamp is 20 inches tall on its great patinated 8 inch trumpet base. The base is very pleasing in its style and color. The leaded glass shade is 17 1/2 inches wide and about 5 inches tall.
It is a great combination of green and variegated tan pieces of glass with quality leading and all nicely patinated. There are 2 pieces of the green glass with cracks in them, but do not show well in the photos and do not detract from the looks of this lamp. It has been correctly rewired and works perfectly. After the rewiring, I replaced the bottom felt which was bad. The item "Antique Leaded Glass Lamp Unique Art Glass Co.
